Cody has recently earned his certification as a Swiftwater Rescue Instructor through Rescue 3 International. Cody supervises the scenic and whitewater rafting and kayaking trips for Montana River Guides on the Alberton Gorge, as well as the Clark Fork, Black Foot and Bitterroot Rivers. Rescue 3 International is the primary agency for swiftwater rescue certification and offers one to 3 day courses all over the world. Cody, a former U.S. Canoe and Kayak Development Team and Junior Team member, has competed in two Whitewater Kayaking Slalom Olympic Trials and the Pre-World Championships. Cody trained under coach Sylvan Poberaj, the U.S. Team Coach, in Washington, D.C. and was ranked in the top ten slalom paddlers in the U.S. A long time river guide and American Canoe Association instructor, Cody teaches Wilderness Emergency Medicine classes for Aerie Backcountry Medicine in Missoula. Cody has also coordinated whitewater safety for some of Montana River Guides production work for the Discovery Channel. This spring Cody will be teaching 2 to 3 day Swiftwater Rescue Classes for private boaters, guides and professional rescuers in Missoula and throughout Montana. The classes are hosted by Montana River Guides and will be offered in Missoula throughout April, May, and June. The only outfitter in Montana certified to teach River Rescue through Rescue 3 International, Montana River Guides has provided river rescue instruction to over one thousand rafters and kayakers as well as staff from over 200 different rafting companies and rescue agencies in the region since 1994. Jeremy Moran is the new Director of the Montana River Guides Kayak School and Youth Adventure Camps.
A certified kayak instructor through the American Canoe Association, Jeremy has paddled extensively all over North America, as well as South and Central America.
Jeremy is 25 years old, has a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana and has worked as a research biologist at UM.
Jeremy is a raft guide instructor, an EMT, a Swiftwater Rescue Technician and teaches river rescue and wilderness first aid classes.
Jeremy will supervise Montana River Guide's Kayaking and Rafting Adventure Camps this summer. These programs teach participants practical river and rafting knowledge and skills such as basic kayak technique, river safety fundamentals, reading water, guiding rafts, and self rescue techniques. After completing the four or five day adventure camps participants not only have a fundamental understanding of river safety and skills, they will have also learned those skills in an environment that has increased their confidence, self esteem, and personal responsibility.
Longtime MRG Guide and Lead Canoe Instructor Alan Burgmuller is the lead organizer for the National Open Canoe Whitewater Championships scheduled for July 9-11 on the Blackfoot River in Missoula Montana. Alan has competed for years at Nationals and is busy coordinating all of the details for this important event. It will be held at Roundup Rapid on the Blackfoot River. Call us for details.
